Y.E. Smith Elementary will create a caring and supportive environment that promotes high expectations and active student participation. Active exploration through musuem learning will foster increased use of critical thinking skills in a positive and developmentally appropriate setting.
Smith will also work in close partnership with parents, students, musuems, scientists and business leaders to build a strong community of leaders. Students are provided many opportunities such as:
- Instructional Labs (Science and Technology)
- Tutorial Programs (Afterschool and Saturday Academies)
- Musuem Learning Experiences (incorporated into the school day) to develop and display original student exhibits
- Special Interest Teams which allows for special interest projects by academically gifted students

Welcome to Y. E. Smith Elementary Museum School. Yes, that's correct, we are a Museum School now! The entire staff is truly excited about the opportunity to work collaboratively with the various museums in the area. More importantly, we are excited about the experiences that being a Museum School will offer our students. We plan on increasing and nurturing those museum experiences with the goal of increasing student growth on state and local assessments.
With the help of the parents, community, and business organizations, we know we will meet our goal of increasing student achievement.
